Type: Employee Benefits
Studies show that even the most minimal exercise can produce a big payoff because maintaining physical fitness not only reduces your chances for serious health risks, but it will also improve concentration and brain capacity.

Integrating small fitness changes into your daily life is fairly simple, according to fitness author Grace Reynolds. She advises that adults walk for at least 30 minutes per day, four times per week to achieve the benefits of exercise. These adjustments will directly impact your brain’s capacity. This type of activity doubles the size of the hippocampus, the brain center for memory and learning. This extra space provides room for your brain to create and store new cells, thus increasing your capacity for knowledge.

Hopefully your place of employment provides easy ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Even if they don’t have a wellness program put in place, you can still create a culture of health among your coworkers with manageable goals, communication and possible incentives. It won’t take long for you to begin to see the health benefits, and it will motivate not only you, but also your peers.

Here at Prescott Pailet Benefits, we have a wellness committee that promotes a healthy lifestyle in the workplace and at home. Dan Prescott, who chairs the committee says, “Our wellness committee meets regularly to devise ways to help PPB employees lead healthier lives. Our Step it Up contest got everyone walking with incentives and recognition!”

Whether you spend most of your day at work or can find time for the gym, you can find ways to improve your health and strengthen your mind. It just takes a little initiative and a little time to make a positive change for your life.
